Dr. Gabriel Szmigiel is a board-certified primary care physician specializing in Family Medicine. He graduated with the highest honors from Rutgers Medical School, followed by his residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. During his residency, Dr. Szmigiel participated in a medical mission to Ecuador and Honduras called Hearts for Honduras. “I decided to participate in these missions because I knew that they helped many people in need of medical care that had no other options otherwise, ” he said. As a physician, Dr. Szmigiel enjoys human interaction and promoting well-being and healing. He has much experience in various fields of medicine, including geriatrics, orthopedics, psychology, and chronic diseases. In addition, prevention and self-care through lifestyle changes are important to him and something he is excited to focus on at VIPcare. “It allows the patient to be one step ahead of the problem, using fewer medications in the long term or possibly never having to use them, ” he said. “I like the approach and structure of value-based medicine, and I feel that is how I was always practicing medical care for my patients.” Dr. Szmigiel is currently a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, visual arts, woodworking, hiking, and any outdoor activities with his family and adopted dog, Tilly.
